The Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) is working to build a people powered climate movement powerful enough to put the Chesapeake region and the entire country on the path to climate stability. They envision an economy where energy efficiency and truly clean sources of power sustain every aspect of our lives and dirty fossil fuels are phased out; where all communities share equitably in the promise of a clean and healthy environment; where millions of family-sustaining jobs form the backbone of our economy; and where the increase in the global average temperature is kept below 1.5 degrees Celsius, protecting the most vulnerable communities from the worst impacts of climate change.

Some recent successes include helping make Maryland a leader in offshore wind and putting the state on the path towards electrification, halting the construction of Chickahominy Power Plant and Pipeline and the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, launching a Electrify DC campaign in 2023, and pressuring the EPA to release stronger pollution regulation standards.

CCAN's annual Polar Bear Plunge is their largest annual grassroots fundraising event. Each winter, hundreds of passionate climate activists run, walk or skip into the icy cold Potomac River to raise money for CCAN! With your support, in 2024, CCAN will continue their fight against the build-out of fossil fuel infrastructure in Virginia, including the Dominion-proposed methane gas plant near the James River, and the Virginia Reliability Project. They're on a mission to Electrify DC and to regulate landfill methane in Maryland. And they'll continue to pressure the EPA to strengthen recently proposed rules, while also working to help ensure that climate migrants from climate-distressed nations are granted Temporary Protected Status.
