World Gorilla Day is September 24 - a day dedicated to the ongoing conservation of gorillas. And while every day is World Gorilla Day at the Fossey Fund, this day holds a special place in our hearts as it's the anniversary of Dian's founding of our Karisoke Research Center. And now with your support, more than 50 years later, the Fossey Fund is carrying on her legacy – helping people and saving gorillas.

Gorillas are beautiful, resilient animals. But poaching and habitat destruction have pushed their populations to the brink of extinction in recent decades.
Our brave founder, Dian Fossey, knew that gorillas would need our help to survive. Today, the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund is dedicated to continuing and expanding Dian’s work. We protect gorillas and their forests every day, while also helping the people who live near them.
A gorilla is strongest when they are with their family. They take care of each other just like us — protecting each other, playing together, even babysitting each others’ young to let their friends get some rest.
