About CCAN

The Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN) is working to build a people powered climate movement powerful enough to put the Chesapeake region and the entire country on the path to climate stability. They envision an economy where energy efficiency and truly clean sources of power sustain every aspect of our lives and dirty fossil fuels are phased out; where all communities share equitably in the promise of a clean and healthy environment; where millions of family-sustaining jobs form the backbone of our economy; and where the increase in the global average temperature is kept below 1.5 degrees Celsius, protecting the most vulnerable communities from the worst impacts of climate change.

CCAN's annual Polar Bear Plunge is their largest annual grassroots fundraising event. Each winter, hundreds of passionate climate activists run, walk or skip into the icy cold Potomac River to raise money for CCAN! With your support, in 2025, CCAN will continue their fight against the build-out of fossil fuel infrastructure in Virginia, will work to make Polluters Pay, and strive to Electrify Everything!

CCAN's goal is to raise $225000 and so far they've raised $13526.21. I hope you'll make a donation in support of my Polar Bear Plunge to support CCAN and their climate campaigns.

On February 8th we're taking the Polar Bear Plunge to Keep Winter Cold!

We're taking the Polar Plunge in support of the work of Appalachian Voices and the Chesapeake Climate Action Network (CCAN).

At Appalachian Voices, we work to end harmful fossil fuel practices such as mountaintop removal coal mining and construction of unnecessary fracked-gas pipelines. We also strive to shift to clean, 21st-century energy sources including energy efficiency, solar and wind power, and stand up to monopoly utility practices that put profits over people. Our ultimate goal is to establish economic solutions that create community wealth and sustain Appalachia’s mountains, forests and waters. This year, staff from across the Appalachian Region are participating in the plunge!!

The mission of CCAN is to build a diverse movement powerful enough to put the Chesapeake region on the path to climate stability, while using their proximity to the nation’s capital to inspire action in neighboring states, around the country, and across the world.
